The role

This senior level engineer or scientist assumes a project role and may serve as a key functional core team member and/or in a lead role on an extended team. Acts as an R&D member who provides technical leadership and direction to a small team (1-3 people), and may serve as a technical leader of a small scale project or be an R&D sub-system technical lead of a larger scale/complex project. Develops proficiency in Product Development Process and/or Change Management, exhibited through significant contributions of stage-gate and/or change control closures for small-to-medium sized projects. Engages others in problem-solving or other project-centric activities to achieve optimal project outcome.

Job Responsibilities

  • Has understanding of wide application of technical principles, theories and techniques.

·       Breaks down challenging technical problems into key questions, plans activities to develop solutions, and highlights alternatives / risks.

·       Contributes technical and product knowledge as well as clinical/customer perspective and/or manufacturing experience to discussions.

·       Individual may be sought out to provide expertise input outside of current project responsibilities by peers.

·       Working, hands-on knowledge of PDP, design control, and change control processes Guides the development of technical solutions into a final product.

·       Advanced understanding of DOE and statistical analysis tools (ideally DFSS trained). Has a solid understanding of intellectual property and is contributing to the IP and Patent Estate of Avanos.

·       Develops implementation plan and effective project schedules for small to medium cross-functional project or derivative projects with the aid of cross-functional team and management. 

·       Functions proficiently as a development team member and demonstrates the ability to meet deadlines, identifies obstacles and proposes solutions.

·       Able to multi-task in an environment of competing priorities and appropriately reach out to management for help in prioritizing activities/goals.

·       Independently plans tasks and follows agreed upon path/strategy/priority with minimal follow-up or one to one direction.

·       Demonstrates ability to make sound decisions when under pressure and meet key deadlines.

·       Solves complex problems with minimal assistance.

·       Executes work following best practices, standards, and published guidance. Identifies when teamwork is the best method to solve issues and gains cooperation and commitment from R&D resources through influence, not authority. 

·       Assists in the development of R&D project plans and strategies. Provides specific, timely feedback to project manager and other cross functional team members to ensure smooth working relationships.

·       Participates in the selection of key engineering talent, and begins to hold cross[1]functional team members accountable for project deliverables.

·       Establishes and maintains associations within the R&D organization and begins to network cross-functionally.

·       Able to communicate effectively with third party partners and has pulse of project status and potential risks.

·       Takes an active role in presentation preparation for larger scope projects/ presentations.

·       Effectively delivers presentations that are appropriate for reaching cross-functional audiences.

·       Effectively uses meeting time to not only impart information but guide or drive a decision by the team.

·       Practices effective listening skills.

·       Presents basic ideas and facts clearly both verbally and in writing.

Qualifications

Required

·       Bachelor of Science with 5+ years of experience

·       Master of Science with 3+ years of experience

·       PhD with 2+ years of experience

Preferred Qualifications:

·       Medical device experience in area of specialty
