Plans, designs, evaluates, and administers employee compensation and benefit programs such as salaries, short- and long-term incentives, job evaluations, performance appraisals, retirement plans, and life, health, and disability insurance.
The Director, Total Rewards provides leadership and direction through managers and is accountable for the performance and results of a division or region. This role executes business plans and contributes to the development of functional strategy. Decisions are guided by functional or major operational segment strategy and priorities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities:
- Influences the long-term vision and philosophy for analyzing competitive pay and benefits data to ensure market-aligned and competitive compensation practices as the leader of multiple Total Rewards senior managers.
- Owns and directs the development and global implementation of the benefits strategy, ensuring offerings align with business objectives, support employee wellbeing, and remain competitive in key markets.
- Defines the long-term vision and strategy for assessing the value of jobs within the organization.
- Delivers a multi-year roadmap for benefits and wellbeing programs, integrating population health, workforce trends, and cost management principles to guide long-term planning and investment decisions.
- Directs the development and management of global and regional compensation programs, policies, and strategies in line with organizational objectives and industry best practices.
- Oversees all vendor, broker, and consultant relationships, negotiating contracts, resolving escalated issues, and shaping the external ecosystem to drive service excellence and innovation.
- Collaborates with senior leadership and stakeholder groups to align reward initiatives with business objectives and facilitate strategic decision-making.
- Leads the design and execution of benefits governance, audit readiness, and compliance strategy, ensuring policies, procedures, and operations meet global legal and regulatory requirements.
- Leads the development of global and regional compensation strategies, structures, and policies to drive business success and employee engagement.
- Directs the development of metrics and KPIs to evaluate program effectiveness, cost/value relationships, and employee impact, and uses insights to influence senior leadership and board-level reporting.
- Manages key vendor relations and negotiates with external partners to support compensation programs and ensure excellent service delivery.
- Steers the deployment of benefits technology solutions, overseeing automation, self-service enablement, and system integrations that enhance scalability, data integrity, and employee experience.
- Directs the strategic vision and execution of comprehensive incentive programs, aligning them with organizational goals and overseeing their global integration and competitiveness.
- Leads and directs external partners and the benefits team through the process of benchmarking and market research to ensure benefits offerings remain competitive and attractive.
- Shapes the communication strategy for reward programs to ensure understanding, engagement, and alignment with organizational culture.
- Partners with Finance, HR leadership, and executive stakeholders to align funding strategies, budget governance, and fringe accounting practices with enterprise financial goals.
- Develops and mentors compensation teams, fostering innovation and continuous improvement in reward practices.
- Shapes and executes enterprise communication and engagement strategies related to benefits and wellbeing, ensuring consistent messaging, inclusive access, and meaningful employee education.
- Provides thought leadership, guides remuneration policy updates, and influences organizational change initiatives from a compensation perspective.
- Champions organizational change initiatives related to Total Rewards, including global transformations, M&A activity, and labor negotiations, serving as the strategic lead for benefits-related workstreams.

- Compensation Strategy Design - Designing an organization's approach to pay and benefits, including market positioning, pay mix, pay-for-performance principles, and guidelines for pay administration.
- Data Analysis - Inspecting, cleaning, and analyzing data using analytical and statistical methods to uncover insights and support decision-making.
- Incentive Plan Design - Creating and implementing short- and long-term incentive programs that motivate and reward employees for achieving specific performance goals.
- Job Evaluation - Assessing the relative worth of jobs within an organization using a structured system or methodology to ensure fair and equitable compensation.
- Market Pricing - Analyzing external pay data to establish market-aligned pay levels that support talent attraction and retention.
- Project Management - Coordinating and monitoring projects to meet objectives, timelines, and resource constraints while maintaining stakeholder alignment.
- Regulatory Compliance - Ensuring adherence to applicable laws, regulations, and standards that govern business operations and practices.
- Stakeholder Management - Building and maintaining effective relationships with stakeholders to align expectations, foster collaboration, and support successful outcomes.
- Total Rewards Strategy Design - Designing integrated compensation, benefits, recognition, and development programs that attract, retain, and motivate talent while supporting organizational goals.
- Vendor Management - Managing and optimizing relationships with vendors and service providers to ensure service quality and cost efficiency.
Your qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in human resources, business, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 10+ years of progressive experience in functional areas such as Compensation, Executive Compensation and Benefits
- 7+ years of leadership experience
- Experience providing leadership and direction through managers, with accountability for the performance and results of a division or region.
- Ability to execute business plans and contribute to the development of functional strategy.
- Ability to guide decisions based on functional or major operational segment strategy and priorities.
- Extensive experience in compensation, benefits, or total rewards, typically at an executive leadership level.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence executive leadership and the board.
- Deep knowledge of global compensation strategy, benefits governance, and regulatory frameworks.
- Ability to shape functional strategy and drive enterprise-wide total rewards initiatives.

Salary Range:
The anticipated average base pay range for this position is $200,000.00 - $225,000.00. In addition, this role is eligible for an attractive incentive compensation program and benefits. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the base posted.
